The 18-track double album is comprised of previously unused material from The Division Bell sessions and is predominantly instrumental aimed at highlighting the late, great Richard Wright and is reminiscent of a more vintage Pink Floyd era. The Pink Floyd drummer told NME interviewers that he would like to get the surviving members of the band, Roger Waters and David Gilmour, back together for a live gig. Nick says it’s “unlikely but possible” but that they would have to have “a good enough reason … an equivalent to Live Aid,” referring to the 2005 reunion, which included Richard Wright.

Today we celebrate Roger’s 70th birthday! He is celebrating, in perhaps the most fitting way, with about 38,000 screaming fans…
This evening at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, Roger is again performing his rock epic, The Wall, to a crowd of over 38,000. Waters first performed the elaborate stage show (an amazing feat even by today’s standards) 33 years ago in 1980 while still with Pink Floyd. At 37, Roger was an angrier young man. Having found immediate inspiration for The Wall following a live performance a few years prior wherein Roger had become so fed up with audience members coming to concerts and making noise and not paying attention to the performances. So angry had he become a one particular performance, Roger spit on a an audience member, “… to [his] eternal shame,” he told Howard Stern in 2012. Despite his guilt for the incident, Roger’s anger at the time sparked his desire to build a wall between himself and the audience. Taking that idea and superimposing the story of losing his father in World War II and how the pain and anger grew over the years from growing up through problematic school systems and the not-so-glamorous rock star scene. These experiences culminated in The Wall, which also was symbolic in that the process of writing and performing the album began to push the band apart.
